Artist's Comments

This is a drastic shift from my overwhelming anime-esque arts. This is a painting I did while yet still in high school. While in college it was very difficult to find time to paint and stress was at a great high; carrying around a pad and paper was more beneficial so I began doing much more anime and character drawings while experimenting with markers and more watercolors.

But I have always enjoyed painting. This piece, while very simple and childish looking (at least to me at times) still appeals to me. From the moment it entered my mother's house it has remained on her wall, no matter where we have lived. Glad to know someone likes it! ^_~

I have categorized this piece under "Sci-Fi" for a very good reason. Personaly, I think deviantART needs to make a SF (Science Fiction/Fantasy) category. This allows extensive elements from both categories whether than having to choose which elements exist more within the piece. But I'm digressing...

This piece also has a great amount of abstractness to it. It's intentional, obviously, lol! Now to explain: The structure in the top left corner is actually a factory. The items in right side are plant life in the area. The figures underneath the factory are a man and a woman. They face away from each other, afraid to acknowledge companionship. They are isolated in their hopelessness and grief. And these are simply the physical aspects of the piece. I realize you most likely wouldn't have known this without my interpretation.... ^^;;

But I have always believed in allowing the viewer to make their own conclusions. Let it speak to the person how they need it be.

The piece is the illustration of a futuristic world. The figures represent the small population of people and their fated existence. Alone in a world they feel desolate, the plant and colorful growth represents the life and hope and existence of so much around them that they are simply not aware of because of their dispair. And of course, the lightening represents the violence and turmoil of their lives.

So yes, these were my intentions and interpretations of the piece. If you had an impression that you'd like to share, feel free to reply and tell me! I'd love to hear it!

The Shtuff: Acrylic paints on canvas. And by acrylics, I mean the folk art paints you get in the craft section of any store, lol! *so poor* Scanned into the computer in four parts, pieced together using photoshop, and tweaked to rid it of some dust and to resize. Enjoy! ^_~

This piece is dated somewhere between 1998-1999. Can't remember exactly which year I painted it. Lost is © me, Tasia Chiba. It is 100% my ideas, my creations, my work.

paints. they're water-based and dry faster than watercolors. they also cannot be re-wet like watercolors and are permanent when dry.
